The Seed Knowledge Hub is an open online repository hosted on the EC-LLD website, developed within Seeds of Growth, an Erasmus+ small-scale partnership in adult education, cofunded by the European Union and coordinated by Semínkovna (Czech Republic) with EC-LLD and SEED Luxembourg as partners.
The Hub brings together guides, technical manuals, case studies and policy materials on seed saving and cultivated diversity. What was included into it was decided on the basis of a capacity gap analysis that reached 868 people across Europe and collected 140 responses from seed savers, community seed bank managers and seed librarians.
The collection now holds over 100 resources and its growing thanks to the contributions of EC-LLD Members and the broader community.
If your organisation has produced materials that others could use, write to info@liberatediversity.org and we will add it. Material in any European language is welcome.
Explore our featured collections below, or use the filters to narrow the Hub by project, language and type of resource (presentations, videos, publications).
Seeds of Growth is an Erasmus+ partnership (September 2025 – December 2026) coordinated by Semínkovna with EC-LLD and SEED Luxembourg, working on community seed banks and seed saving in Europe. Here you will find the Capacity Gap Analysis, the recordings and slides of the Community Seed Bank Labs, and the presentations from the Prague meeting. In English and Czech.
LiveSeeding (2022–2026) is a Horizon Europe project coordinated by FiBL Europe, with 37 partners in 16 countries and a network of 17 Living Labs, to bring diverse organic cultivars to organic farming. This collection gathers its practice abstracts and handbooks, among them seed drying and storage, hot water treatment and organic heterogeneous material.
Survey and climate-data analysis in Malawi (688 households, 1,600 plots) finds CSBs supply ~1/3 of seeds for participants, are linked to better household food security, show mixed effects on crop yields, and correlate with climate-shock exposure.
Practical manual offering step‑by‑step guidance on establishing, managing and governing community seed banks in Europe, covering technical, organisational and outreach aspects.
Practical manual for Community Seed Banks on setting up documentation systems: descriptors, forms, databases, data exchange, management, software and a European case example (Pro Specie Rara).
Discusses how community seed banks can conserve local varieties and improve agrobiodiversity by enhancing economic sustainability through legal recognition, market integration, partnerships and financing models.
Technical booklet describing experimental designs, statistical methods and the PPBstats R tools for decentralized on‑farm breeding and participatory plant breeding.
Practical guide (DIVERSIFOOD Booklet #2, 2019) for participatory evaluation, multiplication and on‑farm testing of underutilised genetic resources, covering seed sourcing, phenotypic assessment, performance, quality and trial organisation.
Report (side event, 1 Nov 2017) summarising global experiences with community seed banks, a DIVERSIFOOD European survey, case studies (Japan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nepal), sustainability factors and Governing Body decisions on Farmers’ Rights.
Collective DIVERSIFOOD publication defining nine key concepts to guide embedding crop diversity and multi-actor innovation for resilient, locally adapted high-quality food systems.
DYNAversity/URGENCI report mapping CSA practices on cultivated biodiversity (75 responses, 13 countries). Finds mixed use of modern and traditional seeds, limited direct consumer roles, and recommends training, communication and stronger CSA–seed network links.
Desk study examining links between agrobiodiversity and health; compares institutional, technology‑centred (biofortification) and civil‑society discourses; highlights nutrient decline, varietal differences, and the need for holistic agroecological approaches.
Analysis and demonstration of landscape-based hotspots of plant, animal and forest genetic resources, proposing integrated conservation, indicator development, stakeholder-led management and local value chains.
Community Seed Bank Labs – Workshop funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ project Seeds of Growth (Project ID: KA210-ADU-1727BE52)
117-minute Seeds of Growth workshop showing practical operations of seed libraries, community seed banks and distributed seed networks in Czechia, Georgia and Hungary; includes seed quality, swaps, community engagement and policy links.
DIVERSIFOOD (Horizon2020) presents nine key concepts to embed crop diversity into regional food systems, covering agrobiodiversity, quality, sustainability, food democracy, participatory research and resilience.
