The 15th Let’s Liberate Diversity! Forum, held in Scandicci (Florence, Italy) in May 2026 within the“72 Hours of Biodiversity” festival, brought together 117 participants from 34 countries, including farmers, seed savers, breeders, researchers, NGOs, and policymakers, to exchange knowledge and strengthen international collaboration on cultivated biodiversity and agroecological seed systems. The forum focused on key challenges and opportunities related to seed sovereignty, EU seed law reform, new genomic techniques (NGTs), patents, farmers’ seed systems, participatory breeding, local food policies, and agroecology living labs. Through thematic workshops, field visits, participatory activities, and networking events, participants explored practical and policy solutions to support resilient, diverse, and locally adapted food systems, emphasizing the role of farmers, communities, and regional initiatives in safeguarding agrobiodiversity and advancing a sustainable agroecological transition.

The 14th Let’s Liberate Diversity! Forum, held in Luxembourg from 4-6 September 2025, brought together more than 120 participants from 23 countries, including farmers, researchers, seed savers, NGOs, and policymakers, to discuss the future of cultivated biodiversity and agroecological seed systems. Through workshops, conferences, field visits, tastings, and a diversity fair, participants explored key topics such as seed sovereignty, EU seed law reform, farmers’ rights, climate resilience, evolutionary populations, seed health, biodiversity conservation, and the challenges posed by patents and new genomic techniques (NGTs). The event emphasized the importance of regional seed systems, participatory breeding, local food policies, and international collaboration in building resilient, sustainable, and diverse food systems. It also strengthened networks across Europe and beyond, reaffirming the central role of farmers and seed communities in safeguarding agricultural biodiversity and shaping the future of food.

The International Farmers’ Seeds Meetings 2024 in Antibes, France, brought together over 500 participants including farmers, researchers, NGOs, citizens, and policymakers from around the world to promote the crucial role of farmers’ seeds in preserving agricultural biodiversity, strengthening food sovereignty, and enhancing resilience to climate change. The event fostered international exchange of knowledge, experiences, and practices related to seed selection, conservation, agroecology, cultivated biodiversity, seed regulations, migration, and intellectual property rights. Through workshops, conferences, farm visits, and cultural activities, participants strengthened global networks and collaboration, highlighting the importance of farmers’ seeds in building more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems for the future.

This 12th edition, hosted at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, in collaboration with the Irish Seed Savers Association (ISSA), was a remarkable convergence of knowledge, experience, and expertise. Held from October 26th to 28th, it brought together over 100 participants who shared a common vision of a diverse and resilient food system. Participants included farmers, breeders, scientists, civil society organizations, and citizens.
The program was rich and diverse, featuring 15 workshops and plenary sessions covering a wide array of topics, ranging from key issues on policy and legislation, including New Breeding Techniques (NBTs), the critical aspects of Seed Marketing Reform, and Farmers’ Rights, to sessions dedicated to Culinary Breeding and Seed Quality. But the forum went beyond intellectual exchanges and workshops. Following the spirit of EC-LLD to serve as a platform to foster exchange and promote action, it provided ample opportunities for networking, collaboration, and relationship building. Attendees had the chance to connect during social dinners and explore firsthand the practical applications of dynamic seed management through field visits and seeds exchange.

The 11th Let’s Liberate Diversity! Forum, held in Budapest, Hungary in 2022 and co-organized with Magház, brought together around 120 participants from 28 countries and 68 organizations to strengthen collaboration on agrobiodiversity, seed sovereignty, and sustainable food systems. The forum provided a space for farmers, researchers, seed savers, NGOs, and policymakers to exchange knowledge and experiences through workshops, seed swaps, field visits, tastings, and artistic activities. Discussions focused on key topics such as farmers’ rights, seed legislation reform, new GMOs, patents on seeds, open-source seed systems, food sovereignty, participatory breeding, urban food policies, and the conservation and use of plant genetic resources. The event highlighted the importance of strengthening community-based seed systems, promoting cultivated biodiversity, and fostering cooperation across Europe to support resilient, diverse, and agroecological food systems.
