SPD#4: Intellectual Property Rights: patents on seeds
In July 2021, the SPD focused on a particular type of intellectual property right on seeds, patents, and their impacts on agrobiodiversity. It asked which would be the impacts of patents on vegetables, fruits, and other food plants granted by the European Patent Office, and what perspective could open-source seed initiatives bring to the landscape. It was enriched by contributions from Johanna Eckhardt from No Patents on Seeds, and Johannes Kotschi from the Global Coalition of Open-Source Seeds Initiatives.
