DIVERSIFOOD Project, Booklet #7
This booklet (DIVERSIFOOD Booklet #7) provides guidance for valorising biodiverse food products by embedding crop genetic diversity into food value chains. Aimed at practitioners, it synthesises lessons from European case studies (e.g. Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, UK, France) and sets out practical approaches for multi‑actor networks involving farmers, breeders, processors, retailers, chefs, researchers and consumers. Key topics covered include recognising product quality linked to genetic diversity, network facilitation, seed availability and legal considerations, models for scaling (up, out, deep), choice of sales channels, communication and labelling, pricing and benefit sharing, trust-building (participatory guarantee systems, trademarks), and a nine‑category evaluation matrix to develop or assess valorisation strategies. The booklet emphasises participatory processes, coherent messaging aligned with production scale, investments in trust and credibility, and the need for cross‑actor cooperation from field to fork.
Key topics: valorisation, biodiverse food, agrobiodiversity, value chains, marketing, seed systems, labelling, trust
