Seed Policy Dialogues
To discuss the political and legislative developments of the agricultural biodiversity movements, EC-LLD launched in April 2021 a series of “virtual dialogues” with actors from different backgrounds.
Each meeting, for a total of 8 appointments, each with an attendance of about 50 participants, was divided into two parts: in the first part, lawyer Fulya Batur presented the themes of the monthly newsletter Sprouts From Brussels, followed by the invited speakers presenting and engaging in a debate on the topics of their expertise.
The cycle, which ended in December 2021, was opened by the French association Inf’OGM while the following months hosted, in order, the seed savers of Arche Noah, the coalition No Patents on Seeds, the network for open source seed initiatives GOSSI, the FAO treaty secretariat and RSR, the UNDROP treaty promoters and Via Campesina, the FAO Commission on Genetic Resources CGRFA and Pro Specie Rara, and finally APREBES to talk about the UPOV convention and its impact on farmers’ rights.
