The DiverSeedPaths project is proud to announce the release of its latest publication, “Capacity Building on European Seed Policy and Legislation”. This practical and accessible resource is designed to empower farmers, seed savers, policymakers, and civil society organizations by providing a comprehensive understanding of EU seed legislation and its impact on cultivated biodiversity.

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, this booklet is the result of a collaborative effort led by Aegilops, the European Coordination Let’s Liberate Diversity! (ECLLD), and Réseau Semences Paysannes (RSP). It offers clear insights into the institutional framework of EU policymaking, the ongoing EU Seed Marketing Reform, and effective advocacy strategies to promote diversity-friendly seed legislation.

Why This Booklet Matters

As seed regulations continue to evolve, understanding EU seed policy is crucial for ensuring that farmers, community seed banks, and biodiversity advocates can actively participate in shaping policies that affect seed diversity and sovereignty. This booklet serves as a guide to the key regulatory changes and provides practical tools for advocacy.

Key Topics Covered:

  • The Structure of EU Policymaking and Legislative Processes
  • Key Components of the EU Seed Marketing Reform and Its Implications
  • Opportunities for Advocacy to Protect Seed Diversity and Farmers’ Rights

Through real-world examples, case studies, and step-by-step advocacy approaches, this resource equips readers with the knowledge and tools they need to engage in EU seed policy debates and champion biodiversity-friendly seed systems.
