How to create a community seed house in five steps: The case of Luxembourg

Five-step practical guide to create a community seed house: found an association, save local seeds, run training/events, build a seed network, and establish a seed house (SEED Luxembourg, Oct 2026).

Seeds of Growth international meeting and Semínkovna 2026 conference, Prague, October 2026

This presentation outlines a practical five-step process to establish a community seed house, using the Luxembourg experience presented by Frank Adams (SEED Luxembourg). The five steps are: 1) found an association for cultivated biodiversity (develop vision, statutes, logo, website, register and present to authorities); 2) start saving local seeds (use manuals, build a seed stock, share and encourage others); 3) develop a training programme and organise public events and workshops to engage members; 4) create a community seed network with agreed structures, constitutive and annual planning meetings, joint seed harvest/cleaning/testing and standardized seed distribution; and 5) establish the physical community seed house (secure a location, form a coordination team, write a manifesto and house rules, create storage and distribution infrastructure). The slides include local milestones and examples (SEED inauguration 2012/2013, RSC founded 2020, start of the “Multiply Diversity” project in 2026, inauguration of the Community Seed House on 14 November 2026) and emphasise practical organisation, training, community involvement and seed management.
