Unlocking the Potential of Urban Agriculture

The European Forum on Urban Agriculture (EFUA) is a 4 year project funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. Its objective is to unlock Urban Agriculture’s potential, by co-desinging a vision for sustainable cities, achieving better networking, better knowledge, better deployment and better policies in the field.

It has established an Urban Agriculture (UA) Forum to develop new levels of stakeholder engagement, to inform decision making and to mainstream Urban Agriculture into European, regional and local policy.
The “NEXT” conference is one of its three key milestones: it will build upon the themes investigated during last year’s “FACTS” Conference, review recent EFUA research/policy outcomes and determine the trajectory for future work in urban agriculture. Farmers, community gardeners, chefs stocking local produce, environmental NGOs, teachers using a school vegetable patch to teach science, urban planners, researchers, or just citizens passionate about urban communities, environment and food – all are invited to participate.

The first day of the conference is for partners only, followed by a 2-day public event aiming to

  • – present the findings from EFUA;
  • – examine experiences and practicalities of engaging communities, businesses and NGOs in the collaborative development of an inclusive, sustainable and innovative EU UA future;
  • – challenge municipalities to collectively consider how they can deliver positive outcomes for citizens and urban environments through UA strategies, policies and support measures.
