Democratic Odyssey transnational assembly
The Democratic Odyssey is a crowdsourced campaign, coordinated by European Alternatives, advocating for a permanent peoples’ assembly for Europe as a way of renewing the EU political system.
The recent EU elections showed declining voter turnout at a time when far-right populism is on the rise, while global challenges such as wars and climate change affect us all. In this context, citizen participation in decision-making processes is particularly important, and the Democratic Odyssey is mobilising to achieve that in Europe.
The plan is to start with an event in Athens, a gathering of around 200 participants chosen by random lottery, who will engage in multilingual, transnational deliberations to set the future agenda for Europe. Afterwards, the assembly will be taken to different European cities and organise online meetings.
The initiative is specifically seeking individuals working in CSOs who are passionate about democracy, inclusion and active citizenship, but different forms of participations are encouraged:
