WS 7 – From Grassroots to Policy: Strengthening Global Farmers Seed Networks
Main objective of the workshop
This hybrid workshop will bring together key individuals and organisations involved in the Strengthening International Farmers’ Seed Network initiative. The main objective is to present and discuss the results of the stakeholder mapping and survey, designed to identify actors, key areas of work, and collaborative opportunities across farmers’ seed systems globally. We aim to validate the mapping framework, share early insights, and gather feedback on how to shape the next stages of the initiative — particularly the development of an interactive, accessible platform for collaboration, shared learning, and coordinated advocacy. This session will also provide space for participants to identify shared priorities and reflect on how to collectively advance farmers’ seed rights, biodiversity conservation, and policy influence.
Description
This session is part of the ongoing Strengthening International Farmers’ Seed Network initiative, launched following the Antibes 2024 gathering and the LLD Forum. It seeks to build an institutionalised global community of practice, connecting networks, CSOs, microenterprises, research institutions, and multilateral actors working on farmers’ seeds and cultivated biodiversity. The workshop will present early data from the mapping and stakeholder survey, which classifies actors by stakeholder type (e.g., networks, CSOs, microenterprises) and key areas of work (e.g., seed conservation, participatory breeding, policy advocacy). Participants will have the opportunity to explore how this mapping can support knowledge exchange, strengthen collaboration, and create a dynamic platform for collective action. The session will combine presentations, group discussions, and feedback exercises to co-design the next steps for the initiative.
