Association Quinta das Águias (Eagle Farm) has its basis in Paredes de Coura in Northern Portugal. The association was founded in 2014 with a mission to raise awareness and promote sustainable living, to protect and preserve biodiversity and promote respect for all forms of life.
We collect, preserve and reproduce heirloom seeds and plants of legumes, maize, vegetables and fruits including old local varieties. At the moment our seed-bank contains over 150 varieties of legumes alone. The seeds are shared through seed swaps and an annual seed fair.
The activities include organic agriculture, fruticultura and agroforestry. The association runs an animal sanctuary for farm animals and companion animals at a 5 ha farm that also serves as an educational farm. We have various activities to promote healthy plant based food using locally produced old varieties.
The association works in partnership with schools and local authorities aiming to raise awareness of the youngest for sustainability issues, the importance of preservation of biodiversity and seed sovereignty. The educational program also includes raising awareness for animal welfare. Eco tourism is another area of activity.
For the future of our activities national and international collaboration is essential to protect seed sovereignty and diversity.
