Judit graduated as a biologist. Although she spent the first 6 years of her professional career in the field of immunology research, the protection of the environment and sustainable agriculture have always been important to her. In 2010, she started a family farm, collecting and growing landraces and traditional varieties. In 2012, with some like minded friends they initiated Magház, a civil network for agricultural diversity. Her professional life and personal interest finally united when she started to work at ÖMKi in 2017. Her main tasks are concentrated around seeds, cultivar trials, agrobiodiversity management and related policy issues.

The Red de Municipios por la Agroecología is a Spanish network of local governments—including cities, towns, and intermunicipal bodies—that collaborate to develop and implement agroecology-based food policies. Founded in 2017 (initially as the Red de Ciudades por la Agroecología) by Fundación Entretantos in partnership with municipalities such as Zaragoza, Valencia, and Las Palmas, the network now comprises over 23 local authorities and promotes sustainable, inclusive, resilient, and diversified local food systems that support healthy diets and local employment. Members engage through peer exchange, technical assistance, training, knowledge generation, and political advocacy to advance local food governance, biodiversity-based agriculture, and equitable access to food

WS 6 – Local Food Policies for Cultivated Biodiversity: From Vision to Action

This workshop will explore roadmaps for activating European municipalities to integrate cultivated biodiversity into local food policies, drawing on the proposals of the Granollers Manifesto “ Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity in European Municipalities”. Participants will engage in collective reflection to identify local strategies and strengthen the role of social movements in catalysing municipal action.

Main objective of the workshop:

The main objective of this workshop is to contribute to the development of local food policies that integrate cultivated biodiversity in European municipalities. To achieve this, participants will be introduced to the content and collaborative process behind the Granollers Manifesto “ Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity in European Municipalities”, which was launched in April 2025.

The session will then move into a space for collective reflection, where participants will explore how social movements can help shape local roadmaps to catalyse municipal action. The goal is to strengthen alliances and foster a shared strategy to make cultivated biodiversity a political and practical priority in sustainable food systems at the local level.

By combining information, inspiration and exchange, the workshop aims to empower actors working on food and biodiversity to connect local initiatives with broader policy frameworks and accelerate the agroecological transition towards of food systems.

Description of the workshop:

The Granollers Manifesto: Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity in European Municipalities was launched in April 2025 as the result of a collaborative process involving civil society organisations, researchers, farmers and local authorities. It proposes 32 concrete actions that municipalities can implement to enhance the use of cultivated biodiversity through a transversal approach aligned with the six categories of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact.

In addition to these actions, the Manifesto includes key regulatory, policy and funding demands addressed to European, national and regional governments to reinforce local-level action.

During the workshop, participants will learn about the process and results behind the Manifesto and will be invited to work in groups to co-develop local roadmaps to activate food policies that promote cultivated biodiversity in their own contexts.
