Free access to seeds for a crisis-proof food system
Join this brief online roundtable hosted by the Greens/EFA/S&D/The Left in the European Parliament, which will see the EU launch of a new legal study, outlining different effective pathways to change EU patent law to exclude plant genetic resources from patent protection.
At a time when diversity of genetic resources for agriculture, enabled by a diverse group of actors in the European seed market is essential to ensure the sustainability of our food systems, we are facing an increasingly complex landscape of patents and plant variety rights. The situation might get even more critical, in particular for small and medium-sized breeders, farmers and the biodiversity they curate, thanks to liberalisation of regulatory law proposed by the European Commission for plants produced by using new genetic engineering methods (NGTs lants).
