Today only a few people know our traditional fruit varieties. This course encourages you to explore our wonderful variety of fruit varieties! It has a modular structure and is suitable both for newcomers and for those who want to deepen their knowledge of former course participants or for those who are experienced in fruit varieties.
Module 1: Variety determination of pome fruit
29 September 2018, 10.00 to approx. 17.00 o'clock
Tools for variety description, cutting technique, definition of important descriptive characteristics and terms for variety determination, meaning of fruit and tree characteristics, walk in the fruit variety garden Zofingen (good shoes/boots, since wet meadow) and common practical variety determination exercise. Homework task for practicing the determination of pome fruit varieties.
Module 2: Workshop Focus on Autumn Varieties
27 October 2018, 10.00 to approx. 17.00 o'clock
Practical variety identification exercises with your own fruit patterns and those from ProSpecieRara orchards individually or in groups. Homework discussion and new homework exercises. Optional: a second visit to the Zofingen orchard.
Module 3: Workshop on storage varieties
24 November 2018, 10.00 to approx. 17.00 o'clock
Practical variety determination exercises of your own fruit samples or those from ProSpecieRara orchards individually or in groups. Discussion of homework. Course completion and confirmation.
