Seed Policy Dialogues

What is the UNDROP United Nations Declaration and what Rights do Peasants have within this context?
What route has been taken by the peasant movements and which scenarios for farmers' seed rights after 40 years?

EDITORIAL

As every month, we will dialogue with lawyer Fulya BATUR that makes a general presentation of the newsletter "Sprout from Brussel" presenting us with fresh news about the EP INI Report on Farm to Fork Strategy and New Genomic Techniques – Inception Impact Assessment for Deregulation.

Afterward, Christophe GOLAY from the Geneva Academy will explain to us the "Right to seeds in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants".

To conclude Guy KASTLER from European Coordination Via Campesina, given his long experience, will tell us what are the scenarios and the situation for farmers' seed rights after 40 years. The webinar will be in English and Francais.

From the voices of our members, articles on how to promote agrobiodiversity published in European Seed, the petition regarding plant health overregulation and not least the importance of having your say on the reform for plants produced by new breeding techniques.

This publication aims to review the current state of play concerning the respect of peasants’ rights to seeds in Europe and to highlight which regulatory frameworks are problematic to the implementation of these rights. Farmers' Rights are critical to ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture and consequently for food security – today and in the future. In its Article 9, the International Treaty recognizes the enormous contribution that the local and indigenous communities and farmers of all regions of the world have made.
